MONSTERS WIN REGULAR SEASON SBL TITLE
The Choccolocco Monsters are officially Sunbelt Baseball League regular season champions after the final weekend of games was canceled due to weather across Alabama and Georgia.
Choccolocco and the Gainesville Gol’Diggers finished with identical 18-8 records, but the Monsters won the head-to-head season series three games to one to win the tie break.
“Congratulations to the Monsters organization and City of Oxford on a tremendous regular season,” said SBL commissioner Todd Pratt. “The success of the team in its return to Choccolocco Park is a great example of how the Sunbelt Baseball League gives local, talented players a place to continue their baseball development.”
SBL Playoffs will begin on Monday, July 21 with the (3) Atlanta Crackers taking on the (6) Alpharetta Aviators and the (4) Waleska Wild Things playing the (5) Cartersville Cannons. In the wild card format for this season, the higher seed needs to only win one of the first two games to advance, while the lower seed must win both to advance. Choccolocco and Gainesville both received a first-round bye and will play the winners of the wild card series.
Streaming coverage of playoff games will be provided via Sidearm Sports. Fans are advised to check their home team’s website for ticket information and game schedules.
